The St. Louis JACL Soda Tent at the St. Louis Japanese Festival at Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis September 2-4, 2023 was a record-breaking fund raising success. The booth sold out of all of the food and drink supplies thanks to perfect weather and large crowds! Thank you to all of the volunteers, including JACL members, friends of JACL, members of the St. Louis Asian American Gathering Group and Boeing Asian American Community Group. Thank you to the Missouri Botanical Garden and their staff. Great job to everyone who was involved!
Robin Hattori of the St. Louis JACL presented her Japanese American family story “The American Dream Deferred” at the L’Chaim Tea House event on August 20, 2023. Attendees of the presentation included members of the Boeing Asian American Group and St. Louis Asian American Group. This followed an excellent guided tour of the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum. Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of St. Louis facilitated this highly successful event!
The Very Asian Foundation will be honoring five trailblazing St. Louisans at the first-ever AAPI Theme Night of the St. Louis Cardinals on August 14. There will be a special bobblehead giveaway featuring St. Louis Cardinals players Japanese American Lars Nootbaar and Korean American Tommy Edman. Two Japanese Americans, Anna Crosslin and Hosei Maruyama will be celebrated as two of the five honorees.
Join St. Louis JACL and its partners in the Jewish and Asian American Dialog Group in a two-part program on August 20, 2023: (1) Guided Tour of the Holocaust Museum (Fee of $12 or $10 for ages 65+) and (2) Presentation of Japanese-American Internment during World War II (free).

There is a meetup event hosted by Danny Poon on July 30, 2023 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at Spoonful (Korean Dessert Cafe), 12943 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, Missouri 63146. This will be a gathering Asian Americans together to do a meet and greet to start up a bi-weekly Bubble Tea Time to discuss different intersectionalities of Asian American issues, e.g., mental health, identity, adoptee, etc. A link to the event is below.
The Red Lantern City Night Market event on July 22, 2023 in Central West End. The event will be a street-market/fair on Euclid Avenue with blocked-off area between Laclede and Pine with food trucks and vendor tents.
St. Louis JACL will have an information booth from 5:00pm-10:00pm in Saigon Cafe with JACL informational displays and also the famous Nisei Kitchen cookbooks for sale. It is free and open to the public! Please stop by and see us!
Join St. Louis JACL at the Annual Fourth of July Picnic on July 4, 2023 at Vlasis Park, 300 Park Dr., Ballwin, Missouri 63011 in Pavilion #1 (closest to the rest rooms). The picnic is Pot Luck and cold drinks will be provided until they run out. The scheduled events will be a raffle, short trivia and scholarship award presentation. JACL members and friends of JACL are invited!
Sydney Suvansri graduated from Pattonville High School where she was heavily involved in band and musicals. Sydney plans to attend Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville as a biology major and music minor.
Mickey Hosack was the senior representative of Eureka High School’s Gender and Sexuality Advocacy group. Mickey is planning on attending Webster University as a Television, Video, and Film Production major.
Sela Masaki has been a keynote speaker for Nisei veterans gatherings in addition to lobbying for justice as a Jewish, queer, person of color. Sela graduated from Ladue Horton Watkins High School and plans on attending American University to major in Global International Relations.
